  • The user interface uses Apache tomcat V8 in Longitude V10.0
  • The definition of computer groups has been changed, allowing computers to exist in multiple groups.

  • Enhancements in the primary user interface:
  • The primary user interface has been optimized to load more quickly and be more responsive.
  • Most of the reports have been optimized to run and render more quickly.
  • The computer uptime report has been re-designed.
  • The primary user interface now supports the creation of "read only users". These users can view the information displayed in the UI, but can not make any changes.
  • You may now define actions that are associated with one or more computer groups. When computers are added to or removed from a group, actions defined for the group will dynamically pick up the change.
  • Rule thresholds may now be set by computer group.
  • Computer groups may be copied from an administrator user to other users.
  • Dashboard definitions may be copied from an administrator user to other users.
  • Several other refinements have been made to the user interface, reports and events.
  • Monitoring Enhancements:
  • A Hyper-V Solution has been added in V9.0.
  • An Exchange 2013 Solution has been added in V9.0.

New in Heroix Longitude for VMware 8.1 (Jun 13, 2016)

  • Enhancements in the primary user interface:
  • A tablet version of the user interface has been created and can be accessed at http://hostname:7228/webui/tablet.
  • The user interface has been enhanced to remember which tab, and which option within the tab, was selected when you close the user interface. When you return, your current position will be restored.
  • An option has been added to allow the configuration of Longitude's mail properties.
  • The addition and management of additional users is now supported. Note all users created from the primary user interface will have admin status.
  • An option to display the status of the Longitude components has been added.
  • An option to manage the upgrade properties and perform an upgrade has been added.
  • An option to open the release notes has been added.
  • Monitoring with remote agents is now supported.
  • Computers whose collections have been suspended may now be deleted.
  • The ability to test a collection has been added.
  • When defining groups, you may select multiple computers when dragging them to a different group.
  • When dragging computers to a group that is not currently visible in the tree, the tree will be automatically scrolled when you move the cursor to either the top or the bottom of the scrolling area.
  • When defining event thresholds, you may now revert a context specific threshold value to the global value by leaving the override value blank, checking the desired contexts, and clicking the Apply button.
  • The creation of up to 5 groups of actions for each event is now supported.
  • When defining actions, you may now implement event escalation by specifying the number of sequential occurrences of an event required to perform actions.
  • A tab has been added to event configuration, allowing the suppression of events based on a computers and objects filter, days of the week, and times of day.
  • Some of the reports have been redesigned to show usage from various entities such as disks and network interfaces as separate lines rather than stacked areas. We believe this is a clearer way to display this data.
  • An option in the scheduled reports has been added that allows you to run any scheduled report immediately.
  • Because of the overhead associated with the real time performance monitor, monitoring will stop automatically after it has been running for 2 hours.
  • A shorter URL may be used to open the primary user interface: http://HOST:7228. The URL, http://HOST:7228/webui/advanced may be used to open the advanced user interface directly.

New in Heroix Longitude for VMware 8.0 (Jun 13, 2016)

  • Major enhancements in the primary user interface:
  • The V8.0 primary user interface contains a completely re-designed reporting tab, with integrated advanced VMware reporting. The reports allow you to create large, attractive charts, and tabular data. Reports can also be scheduled to run automatically every night. These scheduled reports can be emailed, copied to a specified folder, or viewed from the user interface.
  • The Events tab has been enhanced and renamed "Dashboard". This tab now features a near real time graphical view of problems detected. The events view and configuration options are also included in this tab
  • Computers may be grouped and displayed by group in the Monitoring, Dashboard (events), and Reporting tabs. Summary reports may be run for a group, as well as for all computers or devices.
  • The configuration of service level agreements can no longer be performed from the primary user interface, but can be from the advanced user interface. The SLA tab is displayed in the primary user interface only if you have service level agreements defined.
  • Monitoring enhancements:
  • A SQL Server 2012 solution has been added in V8.0.
  • The NetworkDevice solution now contains rules to monitor input and output bandwidth individually. The existing rule that combined input and output bandwidth is now disabled by default.
  • The WindowsEventLog, SnmpTrap & Syslog solutions now collect data on a five minute interval.
  • The following transactions now collect data on a five minute interval: FileContent, HttpConnect, HttpUrl, UnixSCript & WinScript.
  • Other enhancements:
  • The field size for the VMware host id and guest id have been increased to handle larger values.
  • The field size for disk id in the Exchange solutions has been increased to handle larger values.
  • The field size for disk id in the SQL Server solutions has been increased to handle larger values.
  • When configuring event thresholds for Unix filesystems events, filesystems are now identified by their mount point instead of the device name.
  • When collections are failing, you can now retry the collection from the primary user interface's monitoring tab.
  • Windows, Unix and Ping connectivity SLAs are no longer created by default.
  • The Windows and Unix trend tasks and rules have been removed.
  • The Upgrade Manager service will be restarted if it stops for any reason.

New in Heroix Longitude for VMware 7.2 (Jun 13, 2016)

  • Major enhancements:
  • V7.2 has enhanced the advanced VMware reporting page. You are now able to manage experimental virtualized environments for capacity planning purposes. Virtual machines may be cloned, modified and moved to different physical hosts, resource pools and datastores to simulate changes in usage. Also, hosts, resource pools and datastores may be clones and modified to simulate changes in capacity. If you are monitoring VMware, click the VMware button to access this page in a new window.
  • The VMware solution is now supported for vCenter versions 4 & 5.
  • The VMware summary and detail reports have been optimized to run faster.
  • A new Exchange2010 solution has been added.
  • The Active Directory solution now monitors Active Directory on Windows 2008.

  • The real time performance monitor for Network Devices has been optimized to load faster.

  • A filter has been added to Windows collections to exclude disks whose name begins with "HarddiskVolume".
  • In Service Level Agreements, scheduled maintenance time is now reported as "good".
  • The number of processors is now automatically discovered for Unix and Windows computers.
  • Different email addresses can now be configured by component for problems detected by each Longitude component.
  • Bar graphs reports will now display the full name of the object next to each bar.
  • The NetworkDevice solution has been enhanced to collect and alert when an interface configured to be up is detected as being down.
  • The MYSQL Status collection has been changed to collect global values rather than session values.
  • Adding monitoring for VMware has been optimized to be faster for large vCenter environments.
  • When sending an email alert, the name of the solution that generated the problem is now included in the email's brief text.
  • You will now be alerted if the Upgrade Manager service stops for any reason.
  • The Manage Upgrades page in the advanced UI will now load faster when there are problems communicating with remote agents.
  • The NetFlow total filename report has been removed.
  • The ability to export all action rules and correlated events has been added to the advanced UI.

  • The Heroix Longitude user interface runs best in the Firefox browser.
  • The J2EE, WebLogic and WebSpehere solutions have been removed to make a smaller installer. If you need these solutions, please contact your Heroix representative.
  • Miscellaneous fixes and enhancements:
  • VMWare summary host and guest reports have been added.
  • A problem with some of the context specific thresholds in the SQL2000, SQL2005 and SQL2008 solutions has been fixed.
  • A problem in the SQL2005 and SQL2008 blocked processes rule has been fixed.
  • The SQL2005 and SQL2008 Process collector has been changed to operate at the thread level, providing more detailed information.
  • A problem monitoring a named instance of SQL2008 has been fixed.
  • The report and graph labels in the VMWare CPU reports have been changed to be more accurate.
  • When creating an SLA using some VMware statistics, a minimum collection interval is now enforced to eliminate collection failures.

  • Auto-discovery of computers and network devices has been re-designed. A new page allows you to search for computers and devices within a specific IP address range.
  • There is a completely redesigned VMware solution that monitors VMware and VCenter 4.
  • Miscellaneous fixes and enhancements:
  • The Manage Applications page has been cosmetically re-designed.
  • The Add Applications page has been cosmetically re-designed: The agent prompt is hidden if you do not have a remote agent.

  • The installation now checks to make sure that the architecture (32-bit vs. 64-bit) of the installer matches the computer it is running on.
  • Collection filtering for the SQL2005 and SQL2008 FailedJobs component is fixed.

  • Longitude now checks and restarts components that have stopped every 30 seconds. Previously, the check was performed every 5 minutes.
