Lightwright Changelog

What's new in Lightwright 6.0.43 Build 420

Nov 7, 2021
  • NEW FEATURES IN THIS VERSION:
  • Added tooltips to worksheet and layout controls.
  • Revised Help menu, with direct links to support pages at lightwright.com.
  • CHANGES IN THIS VERSION:
  • The list of recently-opened files has been moved from the bottom of the File menu to File/Open Recent.
  • The Live Count window now shows the short version of instrument type and accessory names.
  • The Live Count window now shows a lock icon next to any family header stock quantity that was manually entered by the user.
  • Example: If you do not set a stock quantity on a family parent row, then Lightwright calculates the total stock quantity by
  • adding up the child quantities. However, if you have more lens barrels available than bodies, you may choose to set the parent
  • stock quantity as the total number of bodies. Say there is a “S4” family parent row with three children “S4-10” with 10 in stock,
  • “S4-19” with 10 in stock, and “S4-26” with 10 in stock, but you have only 25 bodies, so you put that into the parent row stock
  • quantity. When you do that, the Live Count window shows a lock in that quantity cell as a reminder that the total of the child
  • entries in stock may not agree with the parent quantity. LWB-460
  • The Maintenance windows for Instrument Types and Accessories will also show a lock icon when you have a stock quantity in a
  • family header row.
  • The column order of all stock counts now matches the column order of the Live Count window.
  • When you change the device type of a maintenance list row, the list now sorts itself to keep device types together.
  • In the Wheel window, doing a contextual click on a picture in a wheel’s hole now offers a Remove Picture choice.
  • Lightwright now checks for updates once a week instead of every day.
  • Automated actions no longer include any Limit that was in effect when the action was saved.
  • BUGS FIXED (Multiple BugIDs can refer to the same bug):
  • Entering a complex series of unit numbers in the Adding window could fail. LWB-489
  • Edit/Clone and Edit/Balance weren’t enabled when the Live Count window was open LWB-494
  • Clearing one registration failed when running on Windows.
  • Selecting a worksheet row kept cell text from being colored based on who last edited the cell.

  • The maximize button was missing from the worksheet window.

New in Lightwright 6.0.31 Build 354 Beta (Jun 21, 2020)

  • New:
  • The maximum text size for label objects is now 720 points.
  • Font & Size menu item has been added to the Worksheet menu. It sets the font and text size for the worksheet. You can still use the worksheet’s contextual menu to set the font and size.
  • Lightwright does not share any universe setup information with Vectorworks. Lightwright looks at Vectorworks universe labels when you do a “complete export” from Vectorworks, and will alert you if they do not match the ones in Lightwright. You will have to manually make sure that Lightwright and Vectorworks use the same universe setup information.
  • Reports remember the last-used destination (Window, printer, etc.) and in the printer page orientation. They revert to the default (Report Window) each time Lightwright starts.
  • New in build 345: File/Print Setup had gone missing and is back. Also, Lightwright will now ask you to use File/Print Setup to choose the correct page size if the printer’s current page size is different than the one specified by a sheet of labels.
  • Revert to Default Settings button in Lightwright Preferences. It restores all preferences and other settings to their default values (before you have customized anything). This is helpful if prefs files were corrupted for any reason.
  • Worksheet Shortcut Buttons (View & Sort) Default Settings This lets you restore the default settings for these buttons. To access it, control+click or right+click anywhere on any shortcut button.
  • In-cell worksheet editing is now available when running on Microsoft Windows.
  • OTHER CHANGES:
  • The default location for the Shared folder (containing files accessible by all users on the computer) is now the Shared Documents folder. On Windows, that is UsersPublicDocument. On macOS, it is /Users/Shared. If this folder is not available, Lightwright will use the user’s Documents folder. The Shared folder is always named “Lightwright 6”.
  • Lightwright never shares any universe setup information with Vectorworks, because Vectorworks 2020 and later do not make any use of it. Lightwright does look at Vectorworks universe labels when you do a “complete export” from Vectorworks, and will alert you if they do not match the ones in Lightwright. You will have to manually make sure that Lightwright and Vectorworks use the same universe setup information.
  • Beginning with Lightwright 6.0.30, LW6Admin.exe (for Windows only) has no interface and cannot be launched on its own anymore. It is now a “helper” app that Lightwright launches automatically when needed. When you click Save in Preferences/Registration, LW6Admin will launch, do its work, then quit. During this time, Windows may ask you if it’s OK for Lightwright to modify your computer settings. If you answer “No”, then registration info will not be saved.
  • Lightwright now notifies you if there are updates available, but it will not download and install them for you.
  • Custom Focus Charts now bold selected Axis indicators instead of drawing circles around them.
  • The web sites link for GAM gobos has been redirected to a Rosco search link.
  • Web sites are now always accessed using https: instead of http:
  • Entering anything into a work note's cue# column no longer cleaars info in any other column.

New in Lightwright 6.0.15.175 Beta (Jan 10, 2018)

  • When you change a dimmer’s type (in Dimmer Setup or Dimmer Details), Lightwright now automatically updates the addresses and dimmer numbers for any related worksheet rows that have linked address or circuit name/numbers linked to that dimmer number. If the new type is ‘Doubled’, then “A” and ‘B” suffixes (indicating doubled dimmer numbers) are added to the dimmer number. Otherwise, any existing “A” or “B” suffixes are changed to “a” and “b” (indicating replugs or repatches)

New in Lightwright 6.0.14.159 (Oct 20, 2017)

  • NEW FEATURES:
  • The Setup Menu has two new entries:
  • Enforce Universe Boundaries:
  • This menu item is an option you can turn on and off by choosing it. When this option is on, Lightwright stops you when you try to enter an address for a light whose DMX footprint would cross into the beginning of the next universe. When this option is off, it will still alert you, but it will not stop you. This option is ON by default. TOWZY
  • Default Color Sheet Sizes:
  • Use this command to set the default color sheet size and to change the color sheet size for the current show. This is in addition to the existing ability to set the color sheet size for the current show in Maintenance/Color and Maintenance/Color Frame
  • OTHER CHANGES:
  • All files used by Lightwright internally, such as labels, layouts, focus background pictures, wheel graphics, and show graphics must have filenames that are legal on all platforms (Mac, Windows, and Dropbox). Any characters that are illegal on one or more of those platforms are automatically removed from the filename.
  • The Fixture database has been updated with current data as of October 10, 2017.
  • Cue and Group List cells that have custom cell-specific formatting are not affected by changes in any Row Format that has been applied to the cue. This works fine, but it can confuse users who re-define a Row Format and don’t know why the format of one or more cells didn’t change when the rest of the cells did. To help with this, turning on the Show Row Format Labels option now labels each cell that has its own format as “Custom.”
  • Cue List cells that have a cue time that is inconsistent with the up/down/delay etc. times now show a yellow alert triangle next to the relevant cells. Connecting to the console and getting the cue list will clear the inconsistencies
  • Bugs Fixed:
  • The Spare Addresses report was inaccurate for all universes after the first one. PONDS
  • Circuit Names linked to dimmers and addresses failed to use the correct
  • address if the dimmer was in a mixed dimmer range. LATHI
  • If a MacOS computer’s username contained a character that is illegal in a Windows filename (such as *“ !, among others) and the show file was saved on the Mac, then the file could not be opened on Windows. HAZAN, MAARS
  • If a focus graphic contained a character that is illegal in a Windows filename (such as * “ !, among others) and the show file was saved on the Mac, then the file could not be opened on Windows. HAZAN, MAARS
  • Labels with text objects set to Show Title, Show File Date, Current Date, Current Time, or Show Filename were not saved correctly in the label and reverted to static text object when the label was opened. Also, the Content pop-up menu did not show their name when they were selected. TAILS
  • On the Focus Charts worksheet tab, dragging shutter cut field labels placed the drag outline in the wrong place.
  • Focus Charts did not print or appear in layout (“There is no data in the Position column” message) because the Position sort list wasn’t initialized for focus charts. LONGA
  • Focus Charts cannot be printed in Landscape orientation, but the Print Paperwork window let you try. VIRLS
  • When printing Focus Charts with custom sketch options, Lightwright failed to select the correct 1 or 2 column paperwork type, resulting in screwed up 2-column charts. VIRLS
  • Using the command to add a work note to the selected cue failed to include the cue# in the work note. It also failed to include cue part numbers.
  • The File/Recent list sometimes contained duplicate entries.
  • The Layout Manager window failed to include older .lwl files. COLED
  • Selecting the “Get Cues” menu item while Lightwright was busy getting cues caused cues to be removed from Lightwright. STENT
  • Color sheet sizes were not stored in .lw6 show files (and even with this fixed, they will not be read when opened in versions prior to 6.0.14). WILIS
  • The fixture library sometimes failed to be copied to the correct storage location for use by the maintenance/profiles window.
  • The Live Count window scrolled to the first item on the list whenever it recalculated. PAYEE
  • In the Cue List window, cells that had content from the console could show “-1” when editing, and it was possible to edit the cue time so that it disagreed with the individual up/down times without any indication that the data could be invalid.
  • The Cue and Group List windows could fail to refresh when using arrow keys to move up and down the list.
  • An OutOfBoundsException occurred in Win6DefaultsGet2 when launching Lightwright after setting up cue list columns.
  • Assigning a color to any selected object on a label caused all of the objects on the label to lose their “None” color. FOWTH
  • Opening a Lightwright 2 show file, channel numbers larger than 127 came in as zeroes. KB
  • Web sites didn’t open unless the URL started with “http://“.
  • Limits whose name contained an ampersand (“&”) showed the name on the Limits menu with a space instead of the ampersand.
  • Other miscellaneous internal bugs were fixed, with these bug ID’s: AULIC, DATER, GLADE, HEXED, HINAU, HOPED, LEASH, LOTES, MEALY, PANEL, PUTID, QUOPS, SCOUP, SCRAY, SHEEL, SKEGG, STIMY, YDRAD, YEWEN, YOWLS

  • Eos Scene Headers were not deleted from Lightwright when the cues they were attached to were deleted in Eos.
  • Cue Lists did not always completely remove deleted cues. MELON, SATES
  • Cue Lists could print with black as the shading color, instead of the desired color. AJUGA
  • Cue List cue parts were not sorted correctly.
  • Cue Lists did not show Follow & Hang correctly. CASKY
  • Eos Groups with decimal numbers were not received by Lightwright.
  • If a cue with a scene was deleted on Eos and the cue list was brought into Lightwright, the header row before that cue was also deleted.
  • Groups with numbers less than 1 could not be deleted from Eos when it sending groups to the console via OSC.
  • Groups could not be created with decimal numbers.
  • You could not delete the first row in the Group window.
  • Totals for phase C in the Dimer Details window and in the Rack Loads report were missing and/or incorrect. ARETT
  • Changing the order of dimmer racks in Setup/Dimming & Control changed the racks assigned to Circuit Names. RACHE
  • Editing a cable name in Circuit Name Maintenance changed the circuit name’s rack System to A. SDEIN
  • Closing a worksheet window when the label window was open (with the label modified but not saved) resulted in getting asked twice if you want to save the label before closing. The second time occurred after the worksheet window had closed.
  • If a label had a panel defined as a DIP switch, if the worksheet category it was assigned to was not defined as DIP switch, then selecting the panel failed to include the category in the Content pop-up menu.

  • Exporting to a Lightwright Touch (.lwx) file could fail. ALGAE
  • Reconciling a Lightwright Touch file didn't work. BIROS
  • Printing focus charts could result in incorrectly being told there was “Nothing to use for layout”. LEGAL
  • The “L/R” and “US/DS” text on focus charts could overlap each other. ROWER
  • The fixture database had lots of problems, including missing Robe Robin fixtures and the Solaris Flare LR. UNZIP
  • The mode pop-up in the fixture database didn’t always sort alphabetically. UNZIP
  • Including footnotes, wheels, or scroll entries in a column on a two-column Cheat Sheet caused the right hand column to spill off the right side of the page. WICKY
  • The right column of two-column Cheat Sheets could fail to fill completely beginning on page 2.
  • Layout Options/Body Columns was not available for Group Lists. SISSY
  • Using a two-finger gesture to scroll the Choose Window contents left and right was sluggish at best. MERDE

New in Lightwright 5.0.38 Build 480 (Apr 7, 2014)

  • To open the appropriate Choose List while working in the Adding Items window, you can either double-click the category name (such as “Position”) or press Cmd+L on the Mac (use Ctrl+L on Windows).

New in Lightwright 5.0.36 Build 470 (Oct 23, 2013)

  • Vectorworks 2014 sends X, Y, and Z coordinates as well as Symbol Rotation to Lightwright. These fields can be mapped to any Lightwright User field that is defined as text. Older versions sent the coordinates, but the numeric format was
  • unpredictable. Beginning with VW 2014, the data is sent to Lightwright in millimeters. If you want to use one of these fields, go to Setup/Worksheet Column Names & Definitions and choose user fields for them, give them
  • appropriate names, and define them as TEXT. Do a “Full export on exit” in Vectorworks, then choose the .xml file again and link them to the appropriate user fields. If you have preferences set to Metric, then the coordinates will be displayed on the worksheet in millimeters, otherwise they will be in Imperial dimensions (feet and inches). Imperial measurements will be rounded to the nearest inch. None of the data from these fields can be sent back to Vectorworks. One advantage to this is that you can blank out Lightwright worksheet coordinate entries for lights where the coordinates are not useful.

New in Lightwright 5.0.30 (Aug 19, 2013)

  • A new menu entry, “File/Save a Backup...”, lets you save a copy of your current show file under a new filename, without switching the worksheet to the new copy of the file. This option also turns off Data Exchange in the copy.
  • A new preference option, “Include current date in backup filename” adds the current date (in the form YY-MM-DD) to the default filename when using “File/Save a Backup”. If a date in that form already exists in the filename, it will be replaced with the current date. This option defaults to ON.

New in Lightwright 5.0.26 (Aug 19, 2013)

  • A new menu entry, “Edit/On Plot Status”, lets you select any part of one or more worksheet rows and then set the On Plot status of all of them with one menu command.

New in Lightwright 5.0.24 (Aug 19, 2013)

  • The Adding Items window has a new option: “Items are NOT ‘On Plot’”. If you are using Data Exchange and don’t want items you’re added to be drawn on the plot, check this option.
