What's new in SEE Electrical 8R1 Build 17

Mar 31, 2017
  • 3 Key new features:
  • Full unicode support (from Basic level):
  • Unicode support is essential for supporting extended character sets, allowing support for Chinese, Russian Cyrillic, and Arabic fonts.
  • Circuit diagrams new folder structures (from Standard level):
  • Projects can now be structured much more easily using folders, allowing pages to be grouped by function, location, manual descriptions, and nested folders. Folders and subfolders can be created and manually sorted according to requirement.
  • Move/Copy pages: improved page management functionality now allows for greater flexibility and control (from Standard/ Advanced level):
  • In the Standard level, pages can now be copied and moved by drag and drop within the same project. In Advanced level they can be moved and copied between different projects as well.
  • In the Advanced level a new interface brings together the separate copy function, location, and groups commands and allows copying of whole folders and subfolders of pages.
  • New settings allow users to control how copied objects should be handled together with custom formula to generate cable and terminal strip names.
  • Enhance your productivity:
  • Cables and terminals: user defined formula for generating cable and terminal strip names (from Basic level):
  • In circuit diagrams, from Basic level, user defined formula for naming are available now. Cable names can be generated automatically and terminal strip names semi-automatically. From Standard level, it is possible to rename terminal strips according to the chosen naming rule from the terminal editor.
  • New auto numbering options for PLC addresses (Advanced level):
  • In circuit diagram settings it is now possible to set up user defined numbering rules for PLC addresses. This new functionality means that many more manufacturer specific formats can be reproduced.
  • Type database: improved interface (from Standard level):
  • The type database editor and browser design has been improved to provide a much better user interface. New features include:
  • create new manufacturer and goods group during part creation ;
  • manufacturers and goods groups can be easily renamed ;
  • export to XML data by manufacturer, goods group or both is now possible ;
  • when importing data, you decide if existing values are overwritten or skipped. An import report is available ;
  • merge existing information in new types to copy channel definitions and other shared information ;
  • and more!
  • Diagonal wires can be drawn (from Basic level):
  • Wires representing data busses for instance are sometimes draw diagonally. Diagonal wires can now be drawn simply by holding Ctrl or shift during the draw wire command.
  • Easy re-use of a connector pin (from Basic level)
  • Change texts for multiple components in one step (Basic Level):
  • With multiple components selected, the "Property grid" allows descriptions and type texts for all of them to be changed in a single step, providing a real time saving.
  • Text and dimension: define settings group (Basic level):
  • It is now possible to define multiple groups of settings for text and dimension properties. Each setting group can be quickly recalled from a simple drop-down selector.
  • Switch cabinet manufacturing for electrical distribution systems and others supported (Advanced level):
  • Switch cabinets for electrical distribution systems are often built by using different drawers designed for various tasks. Each type of drawer can be used once, or multiple times, in such a cabinet. Cabinet manufacturers requested the possibility to just design one of each drawer type used and then calculate the correct number of parts for the whole cabinet according to the number of drawers of each type used.
  • Communicate better:
  • Manage PDF documents in workspaces (from Basic level):
  • It is now possible to manage PDF documents inside a SEE Electrical workspace in the "Other documents".
  • Wire part lists allow length calculation (from Standard level):
  • Possibility to calculate the wire length in graphical wire lists. This makes your documentation even more complete.
  • Terminal plan, Connector plan, Cable plan, Cable Terminal Row plan:
  • boxes around components help reduce complex routing (Advanced level)
  • To avoid complex routing in graphical plans where symbols can be shown as targets, a simplified view of the target symbol (symbol is shown in a box) can now be used.
  • Print areas supported (Basic level):
  • Sometimes it is necessary to print only part of a page and to be able to re-print the same area later. Pages in SEE Electrical now support the definition of print areas.
  • Signal definitions can be copied (from Standard level):
  • It is now possible to copy signal definitions between workspaces in which the setting "use signal type" is active. This is essential in avoiding mistakes and quickly duplicating settings between workspaces.
  • New "Cabinet" module features:
  • Index table can be sorted by product name:
  • Finding components is much easier thanks to this!
  • Produce drill-holes automatically from the type database information:
  • This new functionality provides a valuable addition to the production process.
  • White areas in symbols can be removed:
  • White areas are automatically added to components positioned on rails to hide the rail part where the component is mounted. If components with non-rectangular shapes are used, this white area sometimes inadvertently covers other components. Instead of this automatically created area, a manually selected area can now be added to the symbol.
  • New modules and services:
  • New "Auto Generate" and "Translation" modules:
  • The "Translation" module is now available as a separate option for all levels of See Electrical without having to purchase the Advanced level.
  • The "Auto Generate" module is now available as a separate option for standard and advanced levels of See Electrical IEC (not currently available for IEEE).
  • Web catalogue available:
  • The new IGE+XAO web portal for part data provides downloads from a managed web-based store of part number information including channel definitions for coils, core information for cables and connector pin definitions.
  • Two services are available:
  • "SEE Web Catalogue" allows downloads of all available part numbers in the web catalogue.
  • "SEE Parts Library" allows requesting parts which are not yet present in the web catalogue.

New in SEE Electrical 7R1 Build 20 (Jan 6, 2014)

  • New functionality:
  • A new preview window is available that offers zoom and pan options (from Basic level)
  • Smarter Types database gives you only realistic parts for the coils/relays you are using
  • Generate all your lists in one step (Advanced)
  • Enhancements:
  • Preview window with zoom and pan features (from Basic level):
  • Zoom easier with the help of the “Preview” window. The preview window allows a user to zoom in/out of the page at anytime without losing the active command. Additionally, it is possible to move around the currently zoomed area to quickly work on a different part of the drawing.
  • The standard pan functionality has been implemented in SEE Electrical V7 and functions the same as in other applications such as AutoCAD© software or Adobe© PDF reader.
  • Smart black box symbols (from Basic level):
  • Reduce the number of symbols to create by using smart black boxes. Smart lines inside the black box will automatically create connection points at those places where they are touched by a wire. Wires drawn across the entire smart black box symbols will be cut automatically
  • Types database shows only the valid parts for the coil/relay you placed on your schematic (from Standard level):
  • Saves the time you needed to search for the right type of a coil/relay in the type database. It is now possible to filter only for those types for a coil (and components with auxiliary contacts) that offer the necessary number of contacts already used in the workspace
  • Example: If there is a coil on the diagram and 2 NO contacts -> the software will search for all parts that have 2 and more NO contacts and a coil with the same type as inserted on the diagram
  • This means, if you already defined a filter for a supplier, SEE Electrical V7 will search for suitable contacts only in the types of the selected supplier
  • Copy page” command moved to Standard level:
  • Reduce the number of clicks when copying a page inside a workspace with the command “Copy page” which is moved from Advanced to Standard level in V7R1
  • The functions “Insert gap” and “Remove gap” found in context menu in workspace explorer for all pages have been moved from Advanced to Standard level from V6R1 build 11 on
  • Graphical lists: generate all necessary graphical lists in one step (Advanced level):
  • Never again will you miss updating a graphical list when you make a change to the workspace. In the Advanced level, you can now generate all necessary graphical lists in one step. Define which lists to generate and just start the process again at any time you need it
  • Sort order of documents in the workspace tree can be adapted to user specific needs (Advanced level):
  • To release users from re-sorting their pages after print, it is now possible to sort the different kinds of documents in a user defined order. For example
  • cover sheet
  • document list
  • cabinet
  • circuit diagrams
  • other graphical lists
  • Document list and export to PDF via the Intelligent PDF export module also follow this sort order too
  • Layer manager: change attributes for multiple layers (from Basic level):
  • Do not waste anymore time changing the attributes of each layer one at a time, but change them all at once!. If you have multiple layers, on the right side of the layer window an editor is shown that allows you to change attributes for visibility, color, line type etc
  • Pull down list to choose component name from a list offers more convenience (from Basic level):
  • You did not find the component you have been looking for easily in a pull down list with the component names in the past? Take a look at our new component name dialog. It offers filtering and sorting functionality and as an additional benefit shows the products description
  • Exchange source languages in translation database and workspaces (Advanced level):
  • Business is getting more and more international. Companies that own subsidiaries in several countries speaking different languages may start a project in one country and complete the design in another. Perhaps maintenance on the machine is done in a different country
  • SEE Electrical V7 supports the exchange of source language to a translated language for workspaces as well as for the translation database
  • Import multiple DXF/DWG pages from one file (from Basic level):
  • Some Electrical CAD systems export their circuit diagrams all in one file. In this case a separate layer is used for each page
  • SEE Electrical now offers the possibility to import several layers found in a DWG- or DXF-file to different pages
  • Use of hyperlinks introduced:
  • You can now easily link external information to your drawings (from Basic level): you can add a hyperlink (to an internet address or to a file found on your local hard disk / intranet) to any graphical object found in your SEE Electrical drawing. You can even associate a link to the symbol in your symbol library
  • Objects carrying a hyperlink can be marked in the drawing. PDF files generated with the SEE Electrical Intelligent PDF generator modules support the hyperlinks defined
  • Also in type database (from Standard level on) hyperlinks can be added to each part numbers online information to help you keep In touch with information supplied by manufacturer
  • Copy feature improved for the functions attribute (Advanced Level):
  • Speed up your process again if you need to copy functions from several workspaces into one target workspace. A new tool allows you to start development of an electrical system by several people in several workspaces and combine the different function groups easily at the end
  • Predefine line type for function and location boxes (From Standard level on):
  • It is possible now in the "Workspace properties", "General" tab in the section "Function / Location" to define the line type used when function and location boxes are drawn. By default line type "solid" is used
  • Support product list in compressed format (Advanced level):
  • New functionality has been introduced into SEE Electrical V7R1 to allow a user to generate a compressed product list.
  • The list gives a summary of components that are the same type
  • Interface to Phoenix Contact and Wago software implemented (from Basic level):
  • If the Wago software applications ProServe Smartscript and/or ProServe Smartdesigner or the Phoenix software applications Clipproject Marking and/or Clipproject Planning are installed on a PC, data can be exported to these solutions. So tags can be generated easily
  • In the terminal list, the command to export to Wago ProServe Smartdesigner or Phoenix Clipproject Planning is available and the layout of terminal strips can be finalized by using the data directly from the circuit diagrams
  • Enhancements in Graphical lists (from Basic level on):
  • Make your simple graphical lists like document list, product list, cable list graphical lists look nicer by
  • showing line numbers (= consecutive numbers)
  • generate content by combining several values in one entry. For example, for components with more than one type, the product list can be generated in a much cleaner and easier way
  • Connector-Matrix and Connector Plan (Advanced level):
  • To complete the management of connectors introduced in SEE Electrical V6, SEE Electrical V7 allows a user to generate a connector matrix and/or connector plan
  • Dynamically reorganize components on rails (Cabinet Module):
  • This new command performs a quick optimization of your cabinet after components have been deleted or moved.
  • New Module - Environment Synchronizer:
  • Many of our clients requested a method to easily update the local workstation installation of SEE Electrical and SEE Electrical environments, like symbol libraries and templates. Many users are not able to work with SEE Electrical on the network because they work from home, in the field or simply want the best performance when making the diagrams. For this reason many people decide to install SEE Electrical and the environment on their local computer. This makes is difficult for the administrator to make sure all users are using the correct environment and version of SEE Electrical. Now with the help of SEE Electrical Environment Synchronizer the administrator just has to update all files on a central server and automatically SEE Electrical Environment Synchronizer will update all local workstations the next time SEE Electrical is started and connected to the network. SEE Electrical Environment Synchronizer requires no interaction from the local user; all is automatically done in the background.
