Senomix Timesheets Changelog

What's new in Senomix Timesheets 4.2

Nov 1, 2013
  • Senomix Timesheets provides time entry applications for Apple iPad, iPhone, Android / Samsung mobile tablets and phones, and other mobile devices. The following new functionality was added for that version:
  • Mobile system access is now available for Android / Samsung phones and tablets, Apple iPhone and iPad, and other modern mobile devices. Time entry can now be completed on both desktop computers and remote wireless systems, with this new platform functionality available for both hosted plans and self-installed Senomix systems.
  • System sign-in from a second computer or mobile device will now automatically 'bump' any other connections you may have left active on other computers. So, if you have forgotten to sign out your in-office Senomix Timesheets session, you can now connect in from your phone, tablet or home office computer without interruption.
  • Following BlackBerry's transition to their new BlackBerry 10 operating system, the native BlackBerry client for BlackBerry O/S 7 and earlier has now been discontinued. You can now connect in to your Senomix account or self-installed server from your current BlackBerry device using the Senomix Timesheets mobile app.

New in Senomix Timesheets 3.41 (Aug 8, 2011)

  • A "Billable" checkbox has been added to system timesheets, allowing employees to designate time as being billable or non-billable as time is entered or recorded via stopwatch. Exports to third party applications (such as QuickBooks and Peachtree accounting) will now designate imported time as being billable or non-billable based upon that timesheet attribute.
  • Projects can now be grouped together in Project Groups for reporting purposes, similar to the existing User Group functionality. For example, all projects relating to a specific client, or all projects relating to a certain type of work, can now be examined together in a single report using Project Groups.
  • Reports can now be filtered to display time for activities and tasks regardless of the project under which that time was recorded. For example, a report could now be created to display all hours recorded for all "Analysis" work for all projects, or to "Phone Interviews" for all "Administrative" employees for projects in the "Pending Projects" group.
  • An introduction to this and other reporting functionality now available in Senomix Timesheets can be found in the new "Quick Reference for Senomix Reports" guide available on the documentation page.
  • Reports can now be filtered for hours or amounts which are only billable, only non-billable, or items which are both billable and non-billable.
  • "Billable Vs. Non-Billable" reports are now available for use in displaying hours and calculated billing amounts for those categories of work in a single report.
  • Invoices can now be created to included only billable or only non-billable amounts. The non-billable invoice can be used to itemize amounts which would have been billed if the corresponding hours were recorded as being billable.
  • A "CSV" (comma separated values) data export report is now available for both timesheet and expense claim records. This allows direct export to applications capable of reading CSV files (such as Microsoft Access), or to read the data export directly in Microsoft Excel (as with other system reports).
  • Users can now be designated as 'stopwatch-only', which restricts their time entry to only use of the system stopwatch. Timestamps are automatically added to user comments for stopwatch-only users, with all timesheet edit and listing access blocked for those stopwatch-only users.
  • Users can now be designated as 'non-time entering', which prevents that user account from counting against a user license total. The user is blocked from entering any timesheet information in the system for themselves, but can still administer the system, generate reports or perform any other task other than entering information for their own user account.
  • For example, if your office had 30 people, with two individuals only using Senomix Timesheets to generate reports and approve system timesheets (but not entering time themselves), those two users could be designated 'non-time entering', with your office only requiring 28 user seats for your Senomix Timesheets license.
  • Report performance for larger analysis reports has been considerably improved, with report creation speed up to 95% faster than before. Most offices will not notice much of a difference (report creation speed will change from 0.5 seconds to 0.1 seconds) but larger offices will see an immediate impact, with larger reports which previously required a few minutes' wait now being created in a few seconds.
  • As with other system reports, spreadsheet reports will now display the identifier attribute for activity and task items when specified, in addition to displaying the identifier at the project level.
  • A second signature line has been added to the printable timesheet to allow for a manager/supervisor signature.
  • Google Chrome can now be selected as the web browser used to display output reports.
  • E-mail reminders can now be set to use "Secure SMTP" for secure SSL connections to e-mail servers. This allows the use of gmail and other secure servers for the sending of e-mail reminder messages.
  • The BlackBerry application for Senomix Timesheets is now compatible with the upcoming BlackBerry o/s 7.
  • Bug fix: As of Java version 6 Update 25 (released by Oracle on April 11th, 2011), the display of drop-down combo boxes for selection of Project/Activity/Task values on a timesheet was displayed in a truncated fashion for some customers using Macintosh computers, and also for some Windows and Linux users operating the timesheet applications via Java Web Start. The incompatibility introduced by that Java update has now been corrected.

New in Senomix Timesheets 3.33 (Jan 4, 2011)

  • This version provides improved connectivity for BlackBerry devices along with interface improvements for the desktop system, as described in the Latest Updates.

New in Senomix Timesheets 3.32 (Aug 23, 2010)

  • Connecting to Senomix Timesheets from your BlackBerry has become even easier!
  • BlackBerry communication in handheld network conditions of low bandwidth are now even more reliable, with system protocol changes optimized for both desktop and BlackBerry applications. Improvements will be particularly noticeable for both handheld applications and those connecting in with remote desktop systems via GEO satellite internet.
  • Data import from Microsoft Project has been re-introduced, with a simplified process for importing your project's activity and task billing codes from that application.
  • The maximum length available for Timesheet Comments has been increased to 5,000 characters up from the previous 1,000.
  • Simplifying the system interface, the Insert/Update toolbar buttons in administration screens have been replaced by a single "Save" button, with the "Clear" button renamed to "New". The timesheet entry screen has also been clarified, with the "Submit Time" button now reading "Save" to eliminate the confusion encountered by some new system users.

New in Senomix Timesheets 3.31 (Jun 27, 2010)

  • Senomix Timesheets for BlackBerry is now available for your office. Ready to use with BlackBerry OS v4.6 or later, this application allows you to connect to your office's Senomix Timesheets system whether in-house or on the road, with full timesheet and stopwatch functionality available through your handheld computer.
  • As with your desktop system, Senomix Timesheets for BlackBerry connects directly to the Timesheets Server program running in your office, so no cables or other data synchronization steps are required. Once your time is saved through your BlackBerry application, it is automatically stored on your office's Senomix Timesheets Server.
  • Details on installing this BlackBerry time tracker can be found in the System Installation Guide.
  • Server-side, the e-mail attribute of system user records has also been expanded, with a full 100-characters provided for use.
  • The features provided in the previous Senomix Timesheets v3.3 release are also available for Windows and Macintosh OS X:
  • Wherever you are in the world, if you're connected to Internet TCP/IP, you can now connect to your office's Senomix Timesheets system.
  • Communications have been adjusted to work via TCP rather than the UDP network used in previous versions of Senomix Timesheets. The result is a system more friendly to external networks which requires minimal configuration to connect off-site users. Those working on client sites, out of home offices, traveling out-of-town or stopping in at the local wifi-enabled coffee shop are now able to access Senomix Timesheets as if they were working in the same office.
  • Details on configuring your office's network to allow external use of Senomix Timesheets can be found in the System Installation Guide.
  • The interface and communications for Senomix Timesheets is now even faster. Improvements will be most noticeable to larger (100+ user) offices, but even the smallest groups will see their fast system screens acting even snappier.
  • QuickBooks imports of Employee, Customer:Job, Service Item and Class attributes will now ignore those records which have been designated "Inactive" in QuickBooks.
  • The table window listing for Project, Activity and Task administration screens may now be sorted on both Identifier and Full Description.
  • The table window listing for the User administration screen may now be sorted on lastname/firstname, firstname/lastname, username or employee no.
  • A button has been added to toggle the display of all or only active system users in the User administration screen.
  • The SMTP Port number may now be specified for e-mail reminders to suit offices which use networks connecting e-mail at ports other than 25. Attributes for username, password and the SMTP server name itself have also been increased in size to 100 characters each.
  • The length of the Project, Activity and Task Identifier attributes have been increased to 50 characters.

New in Senomix Timesheets 3.3 (Oct 21, 2009)

  • Communications have been adjusted to work via TCP rather than the UDP network used in previous versions of Senomix Timesheets. The result is a system more friendly to external networks which requires significantly less configuration to connect off-site users. Those working on client sites, out of home offices, traveling out-of-town or stopping in at the local wifi-enabled coffee shop are now able to access Senomix Timesheets as if they were working in the same office.

New in Senomix Timesheets 3.2 (Apr 23, 2009)

  • A toggle button to display all project records or only those which are active has been added to the Project Administration, Record Query and Report Creation screens. This allows you to hide inactive projects from view or make them available for reference with a single button-click.
  • Timesheet entries may now be automatically rounded to the nearest five, six, ten, fifteen or thirty minutes (with that increment set for you entire office from the Administration application). Hours may continue to be recorded to the nearest hundredth of an hour via stopwatch, or be rounded to fit your office's minimum period of time billing.
  • An optional Timestamp may now be automatically set each time the stopwatch is started or stopped, with that stamp placed in the timesheet comment associated with the effort hours recorded.
  • An employee's QuickBooks Payroll Item is now automatically imported into Senomix Timesheets whenever user records are imported from that application.
  • Time exports to QuickBooks may now export the Payroll Item associated with timesheet effort hours, with that Payroll Item able to be set on a per-user, per-project, or project and user-specific basis, allowing paycheque generation for non-salaried staff from recorded hours.
  • Time exports to Peachtree may now export the Pay Level associated with timesheet effort hours, with that Pay Level able to be set on a per-user, per-project, or project and user-specific basis.
  • Time exports to MYOB Accounting may now export the Payroll Category associated with timesheet effort hours, with that Payroll Category able to be set on a per-user, per-project, or project and user-specific basis.
  • Integration with Microsoft Project has been simplified and expanded, with Summary Tasks in MS Project now automatically imported into Senomix Timesheets as Activity records.
  • Time exports to QuickBooks may now be set to export Project, Activity and Task data as blank Customer:Job, Service Item or Class values, allowing your office to note non-billable work as a blank line in a QuickBooks timesheet.
  • Timesheet comments may now be individually flagged to not export to QuickBooks as Timesheet Notes when recorded data is exported to that application. The export of comments may also be blocked completely, allowing your office to leave comments and notes only in Senomix Timesheets.
  • The Incomplete Timesheets report will now only include timesheet records which have not yet been approved. An approved timesheet is now considered complete, regardless of the number of hours noted for that record.
  • The table window of the User Administration Screen will now list a user's timesheets by double-clicking the user record of interest.
  • The features provided in the previous Senomix Timesheets v3.1 release are also available for Windows and Macintosh OS X:
  • Automatic e-mail reminders may now be sent to employees who have not completed their timesheet for the previous week. The customizable reminder e-mail is automatically sent as your office's time increments to the next week.
  • QuickBooks Classes may now be imported into Senomix Timesheets and used as Tasks for recording time. As before, offices which do not use QuickBooks Classes may continue to use nested Service Items for their time recording.
  • Senomix Timesheet Comments are now exported to QuickBooks as "Timesheet Notes".
  • The "Hours in Week" attribute for setting the number of hours of your office's standard work week is now set office-wide (rather than being an attribute set by each manager when creating reports).
  • Individual users may now have their own "Expected Work Week Hours" set to identify the number of hours they are expected to enter in a weekly timesheet if greater or less than the office's standard work week (e.g. for part-time employees).
  • With the addition of the "Expected Work Week Hours" attribute, the Incomplete Timesheets report will now take into account users who are expected to register fewer than the standard office work week hours (e.g. part-time employees).
  • An "Hours in Day" attribute has been added to the system to allow your administrator to specify the expected length of a typical work day (e.g. 7.5 hours, 8.0 hours).
  • An "Overtime" row has been added to the Spreadsheet Report to identify the number of hours worked in excess of your office's specified "Hours in Day".
  • A "Work and Billing Report" is now available which lists work in progress hours and estimates along-side the billing amount recorded to date for those hours.
  • Report output is now sorted by billing code identifier if reports are set to display that identifier before the individual Project, Activity and Task descriptions.
  • The Administration Application may now be launched from a central network location via Java Web Start.
  • The Stopwatch now remembers the last selected Project, Activity and Task when exited.
  • The login screen may now use (and remember) a domain name in place of an IP address when specifying system login (should your office want to identify the Timesheets Server by a domain name via your office's DNS).
  • The employee-generated Timesheet Comment and Estimate Listing reports will now display the billing code Identifier attributes if identifiers are set for display on the user's time entry screen.
  • Bug fix: If a Project, Activity or Task billing code is set to an 'inactive' state, it will now be removed from an employee's saved Timesheet Defaults template.
