Taiga Changelog

What's new in Taiga 0.9.138

Jan 23, 2012
  • New feature: Streaming media recognition. Three web browsers (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera) and five streaming video providers (Anime News Network, Crunchyroll, Veoh, Viz Anime, YouTube) are supported with this release.
  • Improved control over the event queue: You can now remove individual items, and change their positions using Ctrl+Up/Down key combinations. Event dialog columns are simplified and also display items to be added or removed from your list.
  • Added a timer to the status bar of main dialog, which shows the remaining time to a list update.
  • Added SMPlayer2 to supported media players list.
  • Changed main search bar behavior: List filtering is now separated from other search modes.
  • Taiga now remembers its last position and size on start-up. You can enable this feature via Settings > Program > General.
  • "8bit", "10bit" and "Hi10p" in file names are now recognized as video keywords.
  • Video resolutions on feed filters are now compared as numbers (so that "1080p" is greater than "1280x720", for example).
  • Fixed parsing of TokyoTosho search results.
  • Fixed the issues with default connection mode.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Taiga to crash on adding a new torrent filter.
  • Applied several fixes on the recognition engine to further improve handling of some special cases.
  • Added Winter 2011-2012 season data and updated the previous ones.
  • Anime titles starting in november now belong to fall season instead of winter.
  • Torrent dialog input is now disabled when a search is being made.
  • Update button on event dialog now works even if the user is not logged in.
  • Searching a torrent site via the main search bar doesn't produce a beep sound anymore.
  • It is not possible to search an empty string via the main search bar anymore.

New in Taiga 0.8.121 (Jan 18, 2012)

  • New feature: Season browser. Spring, Summer and Fall 2011 anime seasons are included in this release.
  • Event queue now tries to combine new items with previous ones in order to spend less time updating and cause less load on MAL servers.
  • Fixed several issues related to the event queue that caused some updates to fail.
  • Fixed a recognition issue with videos played over network.
  • Fixed play next episode menu item for anime with unknown total episode number.
  • Fixed User Account Control related issues on Vista and 7.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Taiga to crash on XP.
  • Fixed the drawing issue of reset search button on XP.

New in Taiga 0.8.107 (Aug 4, 2011)

  • New feature: Automatic updater. Hopefully this will save you some time on future updates, and deliver important bug fixes instantly.
  • Major improvement: A new torrent filtering system. Written from scratch, it gives you extensive control over which files to keep by setting conditions and limits, while providing an easy start with several preset filters.
  • Recognition engine takes its share on improvements, including better recognition of movies and other one-episode series, support for more episode prefixes, transliteration of some common characters and better handling of episode ranges.
  • Taiga now uses static linking in order to resolve the Visual C++ Libraries requirement, which means that the annoying error message about the MSVCP100.dll is gone.
  • Added a simple message window to display anime list statistics such as total episode count, life spent watching, mean score and score deviation, all calculated by Taiga instead of relying on values provided by MAL.
  • Added Light Alloy and UMPlayer to supported media players list.
  • Fixed some minor memory leaks in anime information dialog and torrent dialog.
  • Fixed redirection issues with torrent sources.
  • Optimized theme icons to save up on some additional space.
  • Cached anime images older than a week are now re-downloaded for titles that have not finished airing yet.
  • It is now possible to select and copy the title and alternative titles from anime information dialog.
  • It is now possible to discard torrent results via the right-click menu or the Discard All button.
  • Taiga now identifies itself as "Taiga/0.8" instead of "Mozilla/5.0" on HTTP connections.
  • Many other improvements, including but not limited to real-time airing status fetching, more intuitive list sorting, faster tab switching, improved handling of re-watching status, support for more special characters in anime search results, better interpretation of anime seasons and scripting entities.

New in Taiga 0.7.60 (Jul 12, 2011)

  • Twitter updates are back on with OAuth support. You don't need to enter your user name and password anymore; just authorize Taiga to post to your account via settings dialog and it's done.
  • Taiga can now monitor your anime folders for episode availability. This means that new files that are downloaded by a torrent application for example, are detected and shown on your list immediately. You can enable this feature from Anime folders > Root > Monitor at the settings dialog.
  • It is now possible to see available episodes at progress bars of list items, instead of queued episodes. See: Program > List > Progress.
  • Added support for gzipped content encoding, now that it is supported by MAL. List downloads are much faster now.
  • Added fansub group filtering for individual anime titles to compare with torrent files. Note that this is just a temporary solution until a full-fledged filter system is implemented, probably in the next major release.
  • Recognition engine is at least two times faster and more reliable with the latest optimizations, although it's not perfect yet.
  • Anime information dialog now shows genre, popularity and rank values as well.
  • Completed titles can now be set as re-watching from anime information dialog.
  • You can now search torrents from the search bar at main window.
  • Special characters are now displayed correctly in most cases for search results. If not, blame MAL's crappy encoding.
  • Fixed a bug where a media player that uses MadVR as its video renderer caused Taiga to freeze.
  • Fixed a problem which caused Taiga to crash when a DVD is played using MPC/MPC-HC.
  • ...and many other minor bug fixes and general improvements! (This should be the obligatory last item of all release notes, yes.)

New in Taiga 0.6 (Jul 12, 2011)

  • Taiga now mostly works in true offline fashion. You can immediately see the effects on your list after watching a new episode, moving a title to on hold, etc. If you are not logged in, queued episodes can be seen in light green on progress bars.
  • There is no individual dialog to edit anime details now; it is merged with the anime information dialog, which is also redesigned.
  • 64-bit version of PotPlayer is now supported. Group names are also correctly recognized for both versions.
  • Event queue is a bit smarter now; it validates values before processing them.
  • Added timers to check queued events for previously failed updates (every minute) and to check for new episodes (every 30 minutes). It is not possible to change these values for now.
  • Additional themes are now supported, but not yet encouraged. You can make a copy of the Default folder to change whatever you want, and select that theme from the Settings dialog.
  • Changed default size of the main window.
  • Removed default status text ("Taiga is ready"). Status text now returns to current anime title, if there is one being watched at that moment.
  • Preview text at script format dialog is now selectable.
  • Torrent filter dialog now remembers last text value. Torrent filters now have their own icons.
  • Special characters in anime synopses and synonyms for search results should be shown correctly now.
  • Fixed a bug which caused a crash after refreshing list while the search window is open.

  • List search input is now split into words and evaluated separately.
  • TokyoTosho searches are now made within Taiga using Yahoo pipes.

  • Fixed a bug which caused invalid video files to be recognized as new episodes.
  • Fixed a bug where anime titles longer than 64 characters caused a crash on update process.
  • Shows with not yet aired status are now recognized if current date is equal or greater than their start date.

New in Taiga 0.5 Beta (Jul 12, 2011)

  • Added a right click menu to torrent items.
  • Fixed a bug where searching for titles such "Lucky Star" or "Black Rock Shooter" did not return any result.
  • Fixed a bug which caused a MAL search page to open everytime a new episode is detected.
  • You can now search MAL for unrecognized titles using the search window.
  • You can now add new anime titles to your list from search results by right clicking on them.
  • You can now remove any title from your list using Edit menu or Delete key.
