  • You can still edit the contents of any fonts that already exist in your scribes, prior to 3.6.2
  • Version 3.6.2 is compatible with 64-bit desktop machines. From version 3.6.2 onwards we will only support 64-bit machines on VideoScribe. If you have a 32-bit machine, please install version 3.5.2
  • Saving a scribe file in version 3.6.2 will upgrade your existing scribe files to the new font system. This means that you cannot use 3.6.2 scribe files in previous versions
  • Multiple language support:
  • Version 3.6.2 is a significant improvement to VideoScribe. We are now able to support multiple languages!
  • VideoScribe can now support the following languages:
  • Arabic
  • Chinese Simplified
  • Cyrillic
  • Hebrew
  • Hindi
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Google Fonts now available:
  • We have over 60 new fonts available from the get-go in VideoScribe with a range of styles and weights that make personalising your scribes so much easier.
  • What you see is what you get:
  • When you create a text element, you can now see how your font and style will look in the editor view, before you see it on canvas. You can now have text elements of varying colours. Highlight sections of text and then select your colour.
  • Improved text resolution:
  • We have made wholesale changes to the way fonts work and operate within VideoScribe, including improving the resolution to vector graphics grade so the text that is written is sharp.
  • Kerning fixed:

  • Bug fixed:
  • We fixed a bug where on occasion, users were unable to select elements as the previous one became sticky.

New in VideoScribe 3.5.218 (Mar 17, 2020)

  • New look scribe music library:
  • We’ve redesigned the layout of the scribe music library and there is now more information available about each track, plus extra filters and sorting options:
  • The genre of each track is now displayed and this is also a filter option
  • A new ‘loop friendly’ icon so you can see if a track starts and ends in a manner that blends together well, again you can filter the tracks by this too.
  • The colour dots used to represent the tempo of the track have been replaced by a more simple ‘Slow’, ‘Medium’ & ‘Fast’ labels. These are still available in the sort-by options.
  • The add a soundtrack help page has been updated to include details of how to use all the new options.
  • New first-time user hints for trial customers:
  • Customers starting their free-trial and using VideoScribe for the first time will now be guided through the 4 steps needed to create a new project, add images to the canvas, previewing your work and accessing help and support.
  • Bug fixes:
  • We’ve also squashed some pesky bugs in v3.5 of VideoScribe, all of the below will not happen after you upgrade:
  • The hand would sometimes remain on the screen after an image was drawn when previewing your project
  • When published to video some text elements would miss a letter in a word when being drawn, it would instead appear once the whole sentence was finished.
  • Text elements moved slightly on the canvas when you changed one of their properties
  • If you cancelled publishing to YouTube or Vimeo the first item on your timeline would become unresponsive.
  • If you cancelled publishing to Vimeo you could not retry without exiting the publishing screen and going back in.
  • Locking an element or setting the camera was not triggering VideoScribe to ask if you want to save your changes if you exited your scribe.
  • Some changes to GIF properties, like rotation and opacity, were not being reflected in the image preview.
  • Cutting part of your text within the text editor would cause the element to be removed when you confirm the changes.
  • The right-click menu was available during playback.
  • User Interface Improvements:
  • We are constantly looking at ways of improving the User Interfaces in ways to make them more intuitive and more easily understood.
  • VideoScribe can take an emergency back-up of your work every at regular intervals, so if your computer crashes you can restore most of the work you were doing. We use to call this Auto-Save but have renamed it to better reflect it’s purpose.
  • You can also still change the frequency of the Emergency Back-up and even turn it off completely from your VideoScribe user preferences.

New in VideoScribe 3.4.0016 (Jul 31, 2019)

  • What's included...:
  • Template projects:
  • When you open VideoScribe you will see a new folder called 'Template Scribes'. Within this folder is an exciting new range of templates, making it quick and easy to create a personalised and engaging video. There will be 6 templates to choose from at first but we will be building on this and adding more. To find out more about these new templates visit the How to use templates help page.
  • Publish to Vimeo :
  • You can already publish your videos directly to YouTube and Powerpoint, well now we've teamed up with Vimeo so you can publish your VideoScribe projects directly to their platform as well. In just a few clicks you can choose your privacy settings and start the upload, find out more on our Publish and share scribes help page.
  • Previously purchased images:
  • Have you ever purchased a premium image? These are a great range of illustrations sold by private illustrators directly in VideoScribe. We've made it a lot easier for you to find and re-use images you have already purchased by adding a 'My Purchased Images' folder to the options on the add image window. Find out more about premium images and this new feature on the Buying and using premium images help page.
  • American English language support:
  • You say organization, I say organisation! We have a lot of friends across the pond that use VideoScribe so in this update we have added American English to the supported languages and you can update this in your user preferences.
  • User interface improvements :
  • We've made some great changes and additions to the way the timeline quick menu works.
  • There is a new 'Lock Image' option to stop you accidentally moving or amending an element
  • There is a new 'View an element's camera position' button too
  • View Properties, Delete and Hide and all still available
  • Back by popular demand! Double-clicking on the image will now show the images camera position. We had changed this to opening the properties box but we've listened to your feedback and switched this back.
  • It's now a lot easier to resize, move and rotate elements that are hidden behind others. Once selected on the timeline all of those handles will take precedence over any elements in front of them.
  • Ever accidentally moved an element on your canvas? We've got that covered as move has been added to the actions covered by Undo (Ctrl+Z or Cmd+Z)
  • Bug Fixes:
  • We’ve also squashed some pesky bugs in v3.4 of VideoScribe, all of the below will not happen after you upgrade:
  • Published videos were slightly out of time compared with the preview, this was more noticeable in longer videos
  • You can set the amount of time VideoScribe takes to 'Zoom at End' again, this is controlled by the transition time of the final element of your project
  • Some projects were ending prematurely when published as a .mov file
  • Images were moving slightly on the canvas when you changed and saved a property
  • If you replaced an image that you were using to 'Morph from' the application would change the image but start morphing from the first element of your project instead
  • Fade in was not as crisp since we changed to using pure SVGs within VideoScribe, it's now nice and sharp again.

New in VideoScribe 3.3.0016 (Mar 11, 2019)

  • Change the colour of our library images:
  • We’ve been working hard and we’re delighted to bring you the ability to change the colour of the images in the VideoScribe Library!
  • More than a thousand images have been updated to support this new feature which is over 20% of our library. Look out for icon below in the top left of a thumbnail to see which images can change colour.
  • New images:
  • We have added colour versions of our technology images giving you an extra 31 images to choose from… of course, these all change colour too! We’ve also added the extremely popular tap dancer from our website homepage video. Find him in the ‘People’ folder in VideoScribe in both full colour and highlight styles.
  • Extended tooltips:
  • Not sure what a button does? Wonder no more! We have added a ‘more info’ option whenever you hover over key buttons in VideoScribe. Click ‘more info’ to see a short explanation of what the button does or hit ‘read more…’ to see the help page covering that feature in detail.
  • Download videos during the trial:
  • Up to now, free-trial customers have only been able to publish their VideoScribe projects to YouTube or PowerPoint. This restriction has been lifted in v3.3 and you now have access to the local download function as well.
  • Free-trial projects will still carry a watermark but you can now export locally to your machine in MOV and WMV video formats.
  • We’ve made VideoScribe easier to use:
  • We’ve also tweaked a number of other areas to make it easier to use:
  • We’ve improved the way you select elements on the canvas. You can now click anywhere within an image to select or move it. Previously, you couldn’t click on transparent parts of an image.
  • The rotate and resize handles have been updated. We’ve moved the rotate handle to just above the image. This makes it harder to accidentally select it when you’re trying to move an image.
  • We have changed the way you browse through screens when you have multiple pages. We’ve removed the pagination dots instead giving you much clearer page number options with next and previous page arrows.
  • If you change the font you are using, VideoScribe will remember this for the rest of the project rather than defaulting back to basic each time you add a new text element.
  • If you use the Next/Previous element buttons within the image properties screen it will remember the tab you’re using rather than defaulting back to the drawing options tab.
  • To support recent updates we have added 2 extra options to the ‘user preferences’ section. You can now decide if you would like to View Extended Tooltips and also Remember the Timeline bar quick menu state as you move between timeline items. By default, both will be set to on.
  • We have added DPI Scaling Support for those of you with devices that use this.
  • Bug fixes:
  • We’ve also squashed some pesky bugs in v3.3 of VideoScribe:
  • We’ve made some big improvements to the animation engine which has fixed a number of issues you might have had with animation timings, particularly for elements with a 0.0 sec animate time.
  • If you paused the preview of your scribe that would sometimes cause pause and transition times to be ignored in your future previews. Which was annoying, but fear not we’ve fixed it!
  • Large amounts of text with short animation times would run out of time to draw and the last part would just suddenly appear. We’ve now increased the speed of the drawing hand to stop this happening.
  • Move-in and Fade-in, sometimes previewed slower than they should, especially with high-resolution images. They’re real time now.
  • Pausing an audio preview that was longer than your animation would disable the pause button. Not anymore!
  • Auto-save sometimes stopped working if you had dismissed the What’s New screen. Sorry about that, it’s all fixed now.
  • Morph animation now works for images in silhouette mode too.
  • Using the previous/next element buttons to scroll through and edit text elements wouldn’t save your changes. Now it does.

New in VideoScribe 3.2.0003 (Sep 26, 2018)

  • New timeline quick menu and additional options:
  • We’ve introduced a new timeline quick menu which allows you to easily set element timings and control camera position directly from the timeline. This replaces the previous menu which popped up above the timeline.
  • When you have an element selected you can click the small arrow on the right of the timeline item (outlined orange in the image above) to open and close the new menu. The menu will slide out to the right of the selected timeline item.
  • From this menu you can select the icons along the top to change the following settings (outlined blue in the image below):
  • ‘Animate’ – adjust the animate time for the element
  • ‘Pause’ – adjust the pause time for the element
  • ‘Transition’ – adjust the transition time for the element
  • ‘Camera Settings’ – this provides options to set, clear and view the element’s camera position
  • The timing controls in this menu operate in the same way as they do in the properties screen. You can click the ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons to increase or decrease the time by 0.5 seconds or click on the time to input a new value to the nearest 0.1 seconds.
  • By default, VideoScribe will remember the current state of this menu so that when you select a new element it will either stay open with the same option, or it will stay closed. This allows you to perform a series of similar tasks quickly, for example adjusting pause times.
  • We have also introduced new icons to the timeline item tile for the selected element. You still have the ‘Hide’ / ‘Unhide’ (outlined green in the image above) option in the same place, but we have added new icons for ‘Properties’ (outlined yellow in the image above) and ‘Delete’ (outlined red in the image above) to make it easier to access these options.
  • Double-clicking timeline item opens properties:
  • You can now double-click the timeline item to quickly open the properties screen for the element. Previously this was not possible as clicking the timeline item twice was used for the ‘View camera’ option. We found that users did not find this very obvious, which is why we added ‘View camera’ as an option on the new timeline quick menu (as well as on the canvas right-click menu).
  • Adjust greyscale contrast:
  • As well as these changes to the Outline and Silhouette modes we’ve added more control to the Greyscale mode as well! In Greyscale mode, you can now adjust the greyscale contrast level (outlined pink in the image below) from the ‘Drawing Options’ tab on the ‘Image Properties’ screen.
  • A ‘What’s New’ screen
  • We have introduced a ‘What’s New’ screen to provide in-app details of all the new features, improvements and bug fixes introduced in each new release. This will be shown at login after installing an update.
  • You can disable the automatic appearance of this screen by selecting the ‘Don’t show this update again’ tick option, at the very bottom of this page. If you would like to view this page again, at any point, you can do this by clicking the ‘Show Feature Screen’ button which is found in the ‘About and Help’ page.
  • Minor improvements and bug fixes:
  • VideoScribe images use what is known as a reveal stroke on colour images to make them appear like they are being coloured in by hand… neat right! In some modes and animate methods these reveal strokes do not work as well, so in v3.2 we’ve made some changes to allow for that. In Outline mode, VideoScribe will now ignore this stroke as there is nothing to colour in. These fill lines will also be hidden during morph transformations. The opposite is true in Silhouette mode, VideoScribe will no longer draw the lines for an image – it will only reveal the silhouette block of colour.
  • This release also includes improvements to timeline scrolling. We have fixed an issue where images were brought in at the wrong scale when replacing an image from the image properties screen. We also had some reports of the Import Image icons disappearing from the bottom of the Add Image screen, so we have fixed this.

New in VideoScribe 3.1.1003 (Aug 9, 2018)

  • Performance enhancements:
  • VideoScribe for Windows now has a 64-bit option. The Mac installer was already compatible with 64-bit systems.
  • We’ve changed the way that the ‘Scribe Voiceover’ preview is loaded so that you will no longer get a delay.
  • To keep up with all our new features and updates, we’ve introduced versioning for your projects. This means that we can give you helpful messages if you try to open a project in an older version which does not support its features.
  • User interface updates:
  • We’ve smartened up the ‘Add Text’ screen:
  • We’ve moved the font options to the top of the screen and extended the drop-down list. If you’ve installed lots of extra fonts, this will make it quicker and easier for you to switch between them.
  • If you haven’t yet installed extra fonts, clicking the drop-down will now give you a message showing you how to add more fonts.
  • We’ve also changed the way that newly imported fonts are processed so that you can select them immediately without needing to reload the screen.
  • You can now find the ‘Delete’ and ‘Play from Here’ options by right-clicking on an element in the timeline.
  • In the canvas right-click menu, we’ve now added buttons for ‘Delete’ and ‘View Camera’.
  • We’ve renamed some of our buttons to make them clearer:
  • ‘Preview Play’ is now ‘Play from Start’.
  • ‘Export and Download’ is now ‘Export to File’.
  • ‘Save to MySparkol Cloud’ is now ‘Save Copy to Online Scribes’.
  • ‘Default Drawing Hand’ is now ‘Default Scribe Hand’.
  • ‘Paper Texture and colour’ is now ‘Background Options’.
  • You can now use the backspace key to delete selected elements on both PC and Mac. You can also still use the delete key on a PC and Fn+Backspace on a Mac.
  • When you open up the image library, if you don’t yet have any ‘Recently Used’ images, you will now be taken straight into the first image folder.
  • We’ve switched the language selection box from a +/- spinner to a simple drop-down list.
  • We’ve tweaked the size and alignment of some of the boxes in the properties screens to keep them neat and tidy.
  • Bug fixes:
  • We’ve solved these bugs in v3.1.1 of VideoScribe:
  • The canvas size was appearing slightly smaller during editing than it was when previewing or rendering the video.
  • The ‘Add New Image’ button was not working for some users.
  • Shortcut keys and autosave options sometimes became temporarily disabled after using the properties screen.
  • Premium image purchases were not being added to your ‘Recently Used’ images.
  • The voiceover recording was automatically stopping when you reached the length of your scribe. You can now keep recording and then adjust the length of your scribe to match. We’ve also disabled the ‘Import Audio’ and ‘Save Audio’ buttons while you are recording.
  • ‘Recently Used’ was appearing twice on the ‘Scribe Hand’ and ‘Drawing Hand’ screens.
  • Other minor tweaks:
  • We’ve adjusted the grayscale option a little. It is now slightly darker to better represent the balance of the original colour image.

New in VideoScribe 3.1.0004 (Jul 3, 2018)

  • We have updated our folders in VideoScribe to make sure that our fresh new images are easy for you to find and even available to our Pro users offline.
  • We have also added full-colour versions of every image from our recent Buildings, Vehicles, Scenery, Emoji and Currency image packs… that’s 266 new images available with v3.1.0!
  • We have fixed an online save issue which was affecting a small number of customers.

New in VideoScribe 3.0.9003 (Apr 4, 2018)

  • Fade In issue with zero animate time element now fixed:
  • We have fixed the bug where Fade In elements with zero animate time were sometimes preventing scribe renders from completing.

New in VideoScribe 3.0.9002 (Mar 21, 2018)

  • Improved support for high-resolution screens:
  • VideoScribe now looks much sharper on high-resolution screens, including Retina screens. We are pretty impressed with the difference it’s made as you can see in the example below. The top image is v3.0.9 and the bottom is v3.0.8.
  • Ability to sort scribes by their last modified date:
  • You can now sort your Local, Recent and Online scribes by their last modified date. This is in addition to the created date and A-Z which are already available.
  • Minor bug fixes:
  • We have fixed the issue where text and font changes were not saved when you click the Next/Previous Element buttons.
  • We have also fixed the issue where some drawing options were reverting back if you change the image on an element.
  • You will now see a spinner when things are loading while you are moving through elements using the Next/Previous Element buttons.

New in VideoScribe 3.0.8004 (Mar 7, 2018)

  • Sho.co support for Fade in:
  • The sho.co rendering service has been updated to support scribes using the new Fade In animation method.
  • Performance improvements:
  • We’ve improved the way VideoScribe recalculates the timings displayed on the timeline. This significantly improves performance with larger scribes. It also resolves the issue where some large scribes created in v2 would not open in v3.
  • Minor bug fixes:
  • The timeline will now update immediately when timings are changed.
  • We have fixed the issue where text and font changes were not saved when you click the Next/Previous Element buttons.
  • We’ve also fixed the issue where Fade In elements set to zero animate time were sometimes not appearing in the rendered video.
  • Some customers have reported that the Add new image button was not responding. We have been unable to replicate this issue here at Sparkol but we have put in a change that we believe may help and also added an error so if the issue does happen you will get a meaningful information rather than no response.

New in VideoScribe 3.0.7004 (Feb 21, 2018)

  • New ‘Fade In’ animate method:
  • Fade is one of the most asked for feature requests and we are delighted to say that it has become a reality with this release. It’s available on images and text (with the exception of GIFs) and with just a few clicks you can get the element to fade in onto the canvas. The duration of the fade in effect is easily controlled by the Animate Time.
  • Updated options for the “Move In” animate method:
  • In previous versions of VideoScribe you had access to 3 effects. ‘Smooth in’, ‘Go to far’ and ‘Bounce in’. These have been renamed to ‘Smooth’, ‘Overshoot’ and ‘Bounce’ as well as adding a new option of ‘Uniform’.
  • Nothing has changed with ‘Overshoot’ and ‘Bounce’, apart from the name:
  • We’ve updated the ‘Smooth’ effect to cope better with longer animation times. Users had reported that the hand slowed down too much and took too long to be removed with animate times above a few seconds. So we’ve updated the algorithm we use to account for this.
  • At the same time, we have also introduced a new effect called ‘Uniform’. This effect causes the element to be moved in at a constant speed:
  • We find that the ‘Smooth’ effect is best when using a hand to move an element in, but the new ‘Uniform’ effect is often better when using a ‘No Hand’ move in effect, such as a car moving in from the side, or rain falling down from the top of the canvas. You can find out more about Move In by reading our new Instant Answer on this animate method.
  • Minor bug fixes:
  • You can now click and hold the Zoom and Canvas Move buttons to zoom/scroll continuously.
  • The add image, add text and add chart windows are now correctly named.

New in VideoScribe 3.0.6003 (Feb 7, 2018)

  • New free trial watermark:
  • We’ve amended the watermark for the free trial version. This now will only be seen when you preview your work or in the final published video. An example of this new watermark is shown below.
  • New Watermark:
  • There is no change to the watermark for the Education version, it still uses the same VideoScribe watermark in the bottom right of the video output.
  • Minor UI improvements
  • We have made the following minor updates to the user interface in this version:
  • Your colour selection in the text, image and paper colour palette will now be highlighted to make it easy to see what colour you are currently using.
  • If you select white we have also added an outline to the colour box to make your selection clearer.
  • We have improved the tile view on the timeline. The elements you have not selected now show in faded colour rather than being greyed out.
  • When you select multiple elements on the timeline these are now highlighted to a greater level to make it clearer which items you have selected.
  • Further image search improvements:
  • We have continued to improve the image search facility by updating our list of search terms to make it easier for you to find the images you want.
  • Please Note: This change will not be available until later in the week as we also need to make database changes to accompany the updated application. We will update this blog once this has been completed.

New in VideoScribe 3.0.5004 (Feb 6, 2018)

  • Image search improvements:
  • We have made some further improvements to the way images thumbnails are loaded. Thumbnails now load much quicker, especially if you are scrolling through a large list of images.

  • We have made a number of minor improvements, including introducing icons for the element property tabs.
