  • Detects and removes over 4000 different Trojan programs plus variants
  • (1 more, see all...)

When it comes to protecting computers few are the softwares that indeed deserve your attention. With all the malware out there, it is hard to decide which program is good and efficient. There are lots of softwares that claim that they will clean your computer of all the possible malware. And sometimes they are so diligent in their work that they also clean some of the perfectly clean files on your machine.

I will not enumerate any of such softwares as there are special websites that will tell you more about different malware removers out there. The software presented in the next lines draw my attention, because of its interface, which is pretty weird for a trojan and bot remover.

The name of the software is Swat IT and it is developed by LockDown Corp. the company delivers the application in two versions: the free version we are going to analyze today and a more expensive one of $39, the Pro version. The Big Brother is equipped with Startup and Connections features, other then these two functions, there is no difference between the two versions.

The interface of the software is blue, not the light blue one would expect, but the type that hurts your eyes a little. The application window is very small and when you first open it you cannot resize it. It is not unusual, if we take into account the options provided.

The application windows are fit up with only four functions. They are all very useful, although it could have some more functions. The first option is the scanning function. There is not too much to do in here except to press the Start button. Of course, you can choose the elements from your computer that you wish to scan. If you click on the arrowed folder you will be able to choose the desired folders or drives that seem suspicious to you and need to be verified.

The memory used by the program for the scanning job is not too much (during my scan test the application used almost 13MB of computer memory).

The next button is called Processes. Here the user can manage the processes that are currently running. Right-clicking on one of the processes will unfold a menu that allows you to close the process, close it and delete the file, get the file name properties, browse the file folder, save the processes to file, etc.

The Settings menu makes available selecting the extensions you want the software to scan. The default extension list comprises only 18 items, but you can enlarge it by adding more extensions. If - by mistake - you add a wrong extension, do not worry, as you can use the Remove button to right your action. Here is the place to configure the software to scan inside the archives (it will take more time to complete the scan) and include the sub-directories when checking the computer for malware.

For not checking the updates of the software every time you open it, you can tick the "Check for updates when starting" box. To have the software permanently open you can set it to load at system startup.

The Update button allows you to update the software. The user can choose a proxy server. All you need is to provide the necessary info: server, port, username and password. The "Check for updates" button works even if you are not using a proxy.

The Good

Everything worked with this software. It is easy to use, free, and the updates are loading up very fast.

The Bad

The colors used for the interface are not too calming for the eyes of the user. I wish the software protected the computer against spyware and adware also.

I wish I had a list of trojans and bots the software can offer protection against.

The Truth

The software is the WYSIWYG type, so there will not be too much trouble handling it. Apart from those little baddies, it is OK. I will not rate it with 5 stars, as there is still a lot to be improved.

Here are some snapshots of the application in action:
