It’s because of the New York security rules, it says

Microsoft certainly feels the holiday spirit and it wants everyone to do the same thing, so in a video that was recently published online, the company invited its store staff from the newly opened flagship store in New York to sing a Christmas song to their Apple fellows.

And while everyone congratulated Microsoft and applauded their initiative because Apple store employees were so surprised, it appears that the leadership team of the Cupertino-based iPhone maker actually knew about this from the very beginning.

That’s because Microsoft needed Apple’s approval to sing a song in front of its iconic store, as New York’s security rules do not allow them to do that without consent.

And according to Kathleen Hall, corporate VP-global advertising at Microsoft, speaking for The Age, Apple knew that the software giant wanted to record an ad in front of its store, but never asked for details. This means that Apple actually took a risk here, which is kind of unexpected, given the fact that the two are competing against each other in a number of markets.

In the end, it all proved to be a nice effort from Microsoft, which everyone, including Apple, liked, and which will soon air on TV as well as a 60-second spot. If you haven’t seen it yet, we’ve embedded it below:
