AltBacktick

Perhaps one of the least known issues with Windows is that it does not have an embedded way to switch between the windows of the same program. While you can argue that Alt + Tab does that already, the shortcut’s purpose is to switch between all open windows on the desktop.

AltBacktick is a tool designed to fix this issue and hence, enable switching between the windows of the same app in a similar manner to Mac’s CMD + tilde key.

The application does not have an interface, so you basically just launch it and should be able to switch between opened windows now. As the developer points out, the program works in a similar manner to Easy Window Switcher with the mentioning that it supports more applications and it also applies to minimized windows.

It is worth mentioning that there is no way to change the current shortcuts. Sure, the backtick is located right above the Tab key on a QWERTY keyboard and it may be inconvenient at first, since most of us are used to Alt + Tab. However, there is a good chance that you will get the hang of it in time.

The application can come in handy in numerous situations, such as when you have multiple Notepad windows open. If you were to use Alt + Tab in this case, you will be able to choose between all running application windows, so it may be inconvenient.

In the eventuality that you are working with relatively large programs that have multiple windows and you want to have a simple way to browse through them without having to click on the actual window all the time, then perhaps you can consider giving AltBacktick a try.
