A launcher for Minecraft that confers users the ability to more easily manage multiple instances of the game at once, modified or otherwise
Thanks to a very active community, Minecraft is a game with nigh endless replayability. There are many ways to approach it, with some users preferring to modify the game and create different instances where they journey on all sorts of playthroughs. A tool to help one manage that can’t be a bad idea.
Prism Launcher is just that: a program through which you can manage your Minecraft instances, no matter if modded or vanilla. Manage as many or as few instances, change them to your heart’s content, and embark on your adventures without fearing that you’ve messed up your files.
It doesn’t matter if you’re very serious about your modding or are looking to get into it one step at a time: the program should help you all the same. The way in which it handles the management of multiple instances is done intuitively. The software is a fork of MultiMC that seeks to provide a few extra features, particularly pertaining to handling modpacks from CurseForge, among others.
You have a practical interface where you can start adding your instances: choose your favorite vanilla version, or look through the featured modpacks from CurseForge, ATLauncher, FTB Legacy, and other similar platforms, which can all be installed from the same menu.
Before all of that, it’s best to add your accounts via the interface. Microsoft, Mojang, and offline accounts are supported.
The goal of the program is to grant users more control over multiple Minecraft installations by separating them. This is convenient, as it results in not having to worry that a certain mod is breaking your game and prompting you to start over.
I think that being able to edit each individual instance is especially noteworthy. Right-click and instance, click Edit, and the Console window menu will open for that particular entry. You can manage the installed versions and configure the game’s settings, but you can also keep track of any assigned mods and add new ones, likewise for resource and shader packs.
Prism Launcher works well for what it’s supposed to do: helping users more handily manage their Minecraft installations. As a fork of MultiMC, it’s a well-made one: you get to download and manage CurseForge modpacks from the same interface, and it seems to get updated more often.
