S1XViewer

S1XViewer is a lightweight tool that enables you to view electronic nautical maps directly on your desktop. The tool address professionals who commonly work with this ENC maps and that want to explore a given map to create an optimal route that ensures safe travel for the crew and merchandise.

For instance, a ship’s captain could use the app to view a nautical map and create a safe route through a waterway. One of the reasons for this stems from the fact that maps include information about water depth, underwater hazards and other features that may have an impact on navigation. Armed with these details, the captain can devise a plan on how to steer the ship in certain areas to avoid accidents.

The program also uses a map from the ESRI ArcGIS system to help you visualize the information on the chart. Then again, if you want to use this feature, you need an active Internet connection, as otherwise it can’t retrieve the basemap and it will not work properly.

As far as the compatibility goes, the application currently supports S122, S123, S127, S128 and parts of all S111. The support for S102, S104, DCF4 and DCF1 is currently in development and is likely to be available soon.
