In the process of getting accustomed to the Unreal Engine as an alternative to Valve’s own Source counterpart, this independent studio decided to share the tips and lessons learned throughout their development journey, leading to their own take on the Unreal Engine Git Plugin.

Thanks to the power of open-source software, the authors of the plugin at hand were able to improve upon an existing project that no longer receives timely upgrades, ultimately implementing features such as automatic refreshing of remote file servers to keep developers updated with the latest changes, better management of file locking through a multithreaded implementation when working with numerous items and improved lock status checking conditions for a higher overall performance.

Moreover, when dealing with more complex projects, the editor is set to prioritize the refreshing of only the altered files, which should avoid any possible instabilities or crashes throughout the development process.
