Create a report of a directory of choice with or without subfolders, but including all files in a ZIP archive which perfectly mirrors original structure #Folder structure #Directory structure #Copy structure #Structure #Content #Copy
Having a computer network under control might imply knowing the directory structure of specific locations. Reports can be generated, but not using Windows default tools, and this is where Portable Copy directory structure comes in handy, with an intuitive set of controls, and almost instant report delivery.
Just like the name clearly points out, this is the edition of Copy directory structure which saves you the entire effort of having to go through a setup process. What’s more, registry entries are not modified during runtime, so there’s no need to worry about the health status of the target computer.
Input consists of a folder which can be on your hard disk drive, an external drive, or even a computer connected to your network. Subfolders are targeted by default, but there’s the option to only scan the root of the directory. Note that files inside the target location are only read, and not affected at all.
Only one directory can be targeted at a time, and it would have been useful to see context menu integration for faster selection of the directory. Drag and drop isn’t supported either so you need to rely on the built-in browse dialog. You can choose to take ZIP archives into consideration as well when creating the report.
Output is delivered to a custom location under a ZIP archive. Accessing it unveils a similar structure with the target folder. However, it’s only a simple report, and you can’t preview files, regardless of their type. Sadly, there’s no additional text or CSV file created with a written report, or to at least provide details on original file size.
In conclusion, Portable Copy directory structure is slightly underprepared to properly deliver the set of features as intended. The created report is neat, perfectly mirroring the target folder, but without more info such as size specifications or at least an additional text report, practicality has a lot to suffer.
